Some people have stated that Zodiac probably had a tie to Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo. In this thread we can discuss that possibility as well as POI's that worked there or have ties.
Something I just found is that they have a facility called Combat Systems Technical School Command, where they do cryptology training. I'm not sure how long it has been around, but it goes back to at least 1961 from what I have gathered so far.
One thing I like to do is to search bay area obituaries. I'll type in something like "San Francisco merchant marines obituary." This time I searched for "Vallejo, CA cryptology obituary" and I found an obit of a woman, and part of her obit says "In 1985 she was sent to KY57/KY58 Cryptography School at Combat Systems Technical School Command in Vallejo, Ca."
So I have been looking into Combat Systems Technical School Command and found that it is (was?) part of Mare Island. I have not heard about this before, so I am doing some further research.
