Dennis Rader's Military Info - Where Was He When? What was he trained to do?1966-1970 Dennis Rader spent four years on active duty in the Air Force. Air Force Good Conduct Medal the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon National Defense Service Medal He was discharged from active duty in 1970 Was in the reserves for two more years www.thefamouspeople.com/profiles/dennis-rader-btk-killer-29880.phIn the summer of 1966 at age 21 Rader joined the US Air Force, apparently to avoid being drafted into the Vietnam War. 1966 Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas for basic training He spent time at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas while doing technical training there. In early 1967 Rader was stationed at Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile, Alabama and appears to have been there until January, 19681968 sent to Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa in the west Pacific. July 1968 - 1970 he was moved to mainland Japan, stationed at the large Tachikawa Air Base located near Tokyo. He states he spent time in Korea, Greece and Turkey discharged from active duty in 1970
Went home and spent two years in the reserves. He could have been moved around anywhere and any time and in between and he could have caught any military transport and came home to the states on leave. He could have flown into any military base and then on home to kansas. Rader's four years on active duty in the Air Force appear to have been outwardly unremarkble. He attained the rank of sargeant and worked in the installation of antenna equipment, among other tasks. By his own description it was during this period that he started having sexual relations, using local prostitutes. His attempts to engage in bondage activities were rejected. He was able to continue his trolling activities from time to time, but his journals make no mention of any incidents were a victim was more than stalked. He describes one incident where he successfully broke into the base library and pilfered a book. As always, he was never caught. dennisraderbtk.blogspot.com/

I want to see where all Rader was and when. I am sure he probably came home for a visit during those 4 years? maybe not, but he certain could have. If he hopped a transport plane back to the states he could have landed anywhere in the USA and then went home from there. So would be interesting to see if he might have come back to the states any time between 1966 and 70
So his documented killing was between 1974 and 1991, so he had been out of the service in 1970. So why wait 4 years from being discharged before he starts killing? Did he? And was he killing before he joined the Air Force?

I remember reading something a few years ago about Rader being placed overseas during at least one of the Zodiac murders. I never liked him for those crimes really, but I have always wondered if he could have played some role other than being the killer, just because there are some similarities and things that seem to fit. The theory of multiples serial killers working together or having a "game" with each other could be something to consider.
The dates of Rader's known kills is odd for a serial killer. Most are not known to stop killing and Rader did for long periods of time. Something about that doesn't sit right with me.

I don't believe he stopped. I believe they just are not looking for any after the death penalty went into effect in ks... all the ones he was charged with are pre-death penalty. I think there was some kind of deal made with him for whatever reason that he would not be charged with any post-death penalty. AND "IF" he ever came to cali and killed anyone he would get the DP for those, so maybe any in cali(IF there were any) were written off as well. He has to know "something" about Zodiac. He might have just "figured" out the code and inserted himself into the "game", but we have some very brilliant minds working on those codes etc, and they have not figured it out, so how did DR just figure it out one day by himself. I don't think he did. I think he LEARNED it from someone. I know this, it was one of the hardest things I have ever had to learn and it took me every single day and evening( for over 2 years) working on it with someone teaching it to me, for me to get good enough at it that I can do it. and I'm still slow at it. And I've been working a very similar code since I was a kid I wonder if he might have learned it in the military...from someone else in the military. maybe a group of them learned it and when they got out they stayed in contact?

I'm trying to find out if Dennis Rader was ever at Beale Air Force Base in Marysville, Yuba County CA? Or were any of his relatives there, or someone he knew really well from the military, or even if he did not know them REALLY well.
