Judith was a nurse at Sutter Memorial Hospital in East Sacramento, CA. On March 3, 1970, she finished her shift about 11:30 pm, called her fiance, Raymond Willis, to tell him she was on her way home. They were to meet at her apt at 1720 Markston way. She was to be there to meet him about midnight. It should have taken her about 10 minutes to get home. Her fiance, was at her house and by 1:30am she still was not there, so about 1:45 am he went outside and saw that her car was in the parking lot in her parking space. She was nowhere around. The car door was ajar and her keys were on the floor.
Her fiance then looked around the apt complex and could not find her so at about 2pm he called Judith's parents and also the Sheriff. Some of her family and the police came and one of them found Judith's scarf in the car, some buttons from her coat. These were in the passenger side of the car. They also found two hand-stripped pieces of Canon Brand towel in the backseat of the car. These towels were the kind schools, gyms or health clubs commonly have for showers.
Judith had been seen leaving her work by her co-worker. Judith was driving north on Howe Avenue from Fair Oaks Blvd. She was coming from the hospital where she worked. The hospital was located on F Street, between 51st and 53rd.
On April 25, 2017, Judith's remains were found by Leonard Theis and Susan Reed when they were out exploring around an old mine and cabin by Weimer, CA. Judith had been buried in a shallow grave and one of Judith's knees was exposed. The called the telephone operator, who then contacted the police while Leonard and Susan waited there where they have found Judith. Judith had been buried in a white canvas laundry bag. The laundry bag was one made specifically for the San Joaquin School District. A zipped up hooded sweatshirt was found beneath her body. She was still wearing her nurses uniform and still had on her hospital name tag.
Also found was a strip of ribbed towel which was found loose around her neck. Detectives thought Judith had been beaten, then strangled with a nylon stocking. Her body was decomposed but she was identified by her dental records. She was still wearing her engagement ring.
