New Article - Oceanside CA Cabby Killed /Threat To Bus 1962
Use this other thread (below) in conjuction with this thread, to help find info in documents that MIGHT connect to the Oceanside Cabby murder of Ray Davis. The docs are not about the Ray Davis Murder, but they do have connections between Oceanside and San Francisco, I'm in them looinking for a direct connection that might also be Zodiac related CATCH-ALL Thread For COINTELPRO Docs & Info Connected To Ztheslaughterhouse.freeforums.net/thread/445/catch-thread-cointelpro-docs-connected_____________________________ From Tom's Board. ... zodiackiller.com www.tapatalk.com/groups/zodiackillerfr/viewtopic.php?p=150497#p150497I am bringing this info over here to work on it. Redlands Daily Facts April 11, 1962
Lansing State Journal April 12, 1962 - MichiganCab found 1 1/2 miles from Rays body. Police think he was shot in cab, shoved out, and the driver drove on. Lansing State Journal Michigan April 13, 1962Ray Davis was born in April 1933 in Michigan, the son of Virginia and Mr. Davis. He had one brother, Jack Davis. Ray died on April 11, 1962, in Oceanside, California, at the age of 29 Mother, Virginia Davis, Nee Mathews was born in 1914 in Michigan. She had two sons between 1931 and 1933 (Jack and Ray) Name: Ray Davis Social Security #: 380300014 Gender: Male Birth Date: 3 Apr 1933 Birth Place: Michigan Death Date: 11 Apr 1962 Death Place: Oceanside, San Diego County, CARay Davis was born in April 1933 in Michigan, the son of Virginia and Mr. Davis. He had one brother, Jack Davis. Ray died on April 11, 1962, in Oceanside, California, at the age of 29 Mother, Virginia Davis, Nee Mathews was born in 1914 in Michigan. She had two sons between 1931 and 1933 (Jack and Ray) Father is Unknown Davis (I believe this is Glen Delbert Davis) Ray Davis' mother Virginia Davis did not marry Clare(aka Clara A Davis) until 1941. On the marriage license it states that her last name is Davis when she marries Clare Davis(her maiden name was Mathews). The marriage License states she has been married ONE time before(so she must have married another DAVIS before she married Clare Davis(the marriage license states he has never been married before). So Clare Davis, her second husband is not the father if Ray and Jack Davis, some "other" Davis is. The "other" Davis who is their father is not on the 1940 census with the family when they are living with the grandmother. She then marries Clare Davis in 1941. And on the marriage license Clare Davis is a CAB DRIVER(listed on the marriage license) . Clare A Davis was also a postmaster - Shiawassee , Michigan. Name: Clara A Davis Post Office Location: Burton, Shiawassee, Michigan Appointment Date: 15 Jun 1929 Volume #: 91 Volume Year Range: 1896-1908 He would have been 21 yrs old then. So that was before he married Ray's mom, Virginia Mathews Name: Ray Davis Social Security #: 380300014 Gender: Male Birth Date: 3 Apr 1933 Birth Place: Michigan Death Date: 11 Apr 1962 Death Place: Oceanside, San Diego County, CA Mother's Maiden Name: Father's Name Virginia Mathews Davis On the 1940 Census the mother and two sons are living with Ray's maternal grandmother, Phoebe Simpson. also in the household is Ray's uncles - Donald Simpson, Joseph Simpson, Nevin Simpson... and Aunt's - Maurin Simpson, Nevin Simpson. At this time they are living in Owosso, Shiawasse County, Michigan. Donald Simpson is a hay baler on a farm. Virginia(Ray's mother) is an assembler in Metal Industry. There is no sign of Ray's father in the household. Marriage License of Ray's Mother, Virginia Davis(nee Mathews) and Clare(aka Clara A Davis)(not the father of Ray and Jack Davis) I'm thinking the father of Ray and Jack Davis is actually Glen Delbert Davis. I need to check more on this. ok I found it... Glen and Clare/Clair were brothers
1910 United States Federal Census Michigan Shiawassee Shiawassee District 0098 so in 1910, Glen is 8 yrs old and Clair is 2 yrs old. So Virginia Married brothers. I wonder what happened to Glen? He is the father of Ray and Jack. Showing elsewhere it states the brothers are 3 yrs apart. So someone has something wrong on the records, I'll figure it out. Census taker probably wrote it down wrong? Ray's brother Jack Nelson DavisName: Jack Nelson Davis Gender: Male Race: White Age: 21 Birth Year: abt 1931 Birth Place: Owosso, Michigan License County: Shiawassee Marriage Date: 18 Oct 1952 Marriage Place: Owosso, Shiawassee, Michigan, USA Residence Place: Owosso, Michigan Father: Glen Davis Mother: Virginia Matthews Spouse: Alice J DenmanCounty File Number: 10301 State File Number: 76 9459 Name: Raymond Davis Residence Year: 1957 Street address: C Residence Place: Owosso, Michigan, USA Occupation: Service Man Publication Title: Owosso, Michigan, City Directory, 1957 Ray Davis and brother Jack had been in Oceanside from Michigan for only 3-4 months.

okay my first thoughts are to see what exactly was going on at the time to figure out what might have caused all this.
I am told the body of the cabby was dumped in the alley by the houses of two mayors. I was told that this actually happened on the 10th and the body found on the 11th. I was told a call was made on the 9th stating this would happen. Other than that I am told nothing, and have not read anything. I like to keep a clear mind and unbiased by info and not look at what everyone else says. This way I'm not influenced, and I like to just gather info and brainstorm wherever it goes. I don't try to "fit" info to suspects. If it goes in the way of a suspect, fine, but I don't want to be trying to "FIT" it.
so I'll just post whatever I find. Then we can sort through it all and go from there.
the cab was left in the 400 block of south pacific ave.

what is up with killing Cab Drivers?
Why would Z(if Z) choose cab drivers to kill?
I read where(but not sure is true yet) the cab company which Ray Davis was driving for was "Checker Cab" . Is that correct(I'm checking). If so, this cab company at the time was out of Kalamazoo, Michigan, another Michigan tie. Because Ray Davis' step father was also a Cab driver, I wonder if his step father also drove for the Kalamazoo Cab Company back in Michigan where he(the step father) lived?
Stine was Yellow cab and I'm not sure who owned it at the time.
I'm wondering if the cab had anything to do with why Ray Davis was chosen to be a victim? or was it something that followed him from Michigan? why choose him?
and why choose Paul Stine. I have other threads for why I think Paul Stine was chosen. But why Ray Davis?
some info on the Checker Cab company in the 60's... seems they really ramped up during 1962 - does that mean anything, who know?
Checker Cab in 1960s
The dealer network continued to grow throughout the early 1960s. During this decade Checker usually managed its target volume of 6000-7000 cars a year. In 1962, production topped 8000, although most of those were taxis. Four-door sedans and station wagons (Superba and Marathon models) also were advertised to individual customers in upscale publications. The ads emphasized the durability of the Checker and the attention to quality improvements. In 1962, almost 3,000 cars were sold to individuals—20% of production—but that percentage declined to 10% in the 1970s.
In 1964, the state of New York pursued Marking and Checker on antitrust charges, alleging that it controlled both the taxi service and manufacture of taxis, and thus favored itself in fulfilling orders. Rather than allow Checker drivers to begin buying different brands of cars, Markin began selling licenses in New York City.

Is there a San Diego Connection?
Being this is a half hour from San Diego, and also being Oceanside is in San Diego county as well as is San Diego, then does this person have a tie to San Diego County?
Troy Houghton of the Minutemen had moved to San Diego in 1961 and was there in 1962, he had first moved there in 1954. Moved away and returned in 1961.
At some point Troy Houghton and Dennis Mower were very close friends. Dennis Patrick Mower was in high school in Van Nuys in 1962. That is about 100 miles away. He was 16 and in high school, don't let the age fool you. His father was living in Hollywood area. His Father was a Hollywood actor and producer, had been in more of the early technicolor movies that ANYONE, and he was known for The Radio Dectective. The father was also born in Hawaii. Dennis was also a Good friend of kkk Imperial Wizard Sam Bower at some point, not sure if it was during these years or not, but later on he was very close to Sam Bower. Dennis became #2 person of the Minutemen. Even though a young age, 16-17 in 1962, he had joined the Minutemen at age 15, arrested for fire bombings and other charges. He was no kid when a teenager.
Dennis Bower's father was Benjamin Allen Mower, aka "Jack" Mower. He was a producer and actor in Hollywood. He was in more of the early color movies that ANYONE. He was also THE RADIO DETECTIVE. He was born in Hawaii. It's possible Dennis might have learned disguising himself from his father who obviously would have used actor's make up and disguises in his work. Also perhaps Dennis would see the screen plays or listen to the old Radio Detective stories etc, and plan murders according to something in those stories? just a thought.
In 1962 at the time of Ray Davis Murder, Dennis Mower was in high school, age 16, at Van Nuys High School.

The other article in the first post(the second article states that the cab Driver's brother, Jack Davis, was stationed at Camp Pendleton(I've also read that Jack ONLY WORKED at Camp Pendleton and not STATIONED there; have to check that), and it says they were both from MICHIGAN...They had been in Oceanside for only 3-4 months.
Ray Davis Left Michigan in early January where he was a factory worker(see news article above from Michigan) He went to Oceanside along with his brother Jack Nelson Davis early January 1962.
They both had jobs in Michigan, their family is there, why did they decide to go to San Diego?
Interesting, there is that Michigan connection again.... wonder if there is some connection?
Way too many SK cases, the killers have ties to Michigan.

A book on the front seat of the cab . ---- Dance With The Dead ---
the only clue in this 21st detective book by this author is.... find four freckles on one of the tomatoe's tuchie
I don't know if this is the same "Dance With The Dead" book as was in the cab, but this is a second printing of the original and the date is 1962.
Private Eye Say: Lady with too fancy front sometimes plain murder behind.
"IF" the killer left this book in the cab, I wonder if there is anything in that caption that means anything? Here is another cover for the title by the same author
Here is a review on the author. so he was very popular in the 60's. (detective fiction, and southern cali locale)"As far as I'm concerned, Richard S. Prather was the King of the paperback P.I writers of the 60s. Shell Scott should be in the Top Ten of any readers list of favorite private eyes." --Robert J. Randisi For four decades, Richard S. Prather published over 40 works of detective fiction, most featuring his clever, cad-about-town hero, Shell Scott. Known for their arched humor, punchy dialogue, and sunny Southern California locale, the Shell Scott books represent one of the greatest private eye collections ever produced. This case couldn't have been more up Shell Scott's alley. Twelve naked, luscious beauties, one for each month of the year, were Scott's next assignment. They were called the "Wow" pinup girls and, man, were they wow! Scott's mission: find four freckles. Four freckles located on one of these tomatoes' tushies. That was the only clue Scott had to help him solve this murder. But not to worry, it's the perfect mixture of business and pleasure for Shell Scott, P.I. Honored with the Life Achievement Award by the Private Eye Writers of America! "(Shell Scott is) as amusingly blithe a figure as the field has seen since the Saint." --Anthony Boucher Dance with the Dead is the 21st book in the Shell Scott Mysteries,
In the second book I posted, the detective has left southern cali and is in Hawaii. He's in a cab, he has the cab stop as they are going into a nice area and he gets out of the cab... then a chevy comes along, turns around and starts shooting at him. kind of interesting, he's in a cab and someone shooting at him, and then this is the book left in the cab. flukey stuff

Found in the cabby's shirt pocket was (3) one dollar bills, and 43 cents in change.... does this mean anything?
I wonder if the cabby just happened to have that money in his pocket, or did the killer put it in there?
probably nothing but might be.... CLU . DMV. CLU.... DMV CLUE? just sticking it out there because BTK use to do this kind of stuff .
CDU . CDC . CDL. CMC. CML . CMU . CVU . CVC . CVL . LDU . LDC . LDL . LMC. LML . LMU . LVC. CVL LVU UDU . UDC UDL ETC... too many to do right now I am tired, but 343 might mean something.
also not always do coders use the number in that sequence, sometimes on the 2nd line they skip 1 and start at 2, or sometimes on the 3rd line they skip 1 and start at 2. just depends on how they arrange the alphabet, and it is common on the 2nd or 3rd row to skip the 1/A column and go to the 2/B column. and there is not enough in this case of this cabby for me to know how they are doing it, or if they are doing it at all. but if more pops up with numbers I'll figure it out. but no sense in going all through this without more number clues.
it is possible to look at the number of the addresses of the cab and the body, but it just says 400 block and not the exact address, and the other address is 1926 so I don't know if he chose the addresses on purpose or not... but if we get the exact address on the 400 block of s pacific then I'll have 3 different numbers to work with and see if anything comes up with that. right now there is just not enough to work with.
one more thought here... we might take the 343 and see if there is a page in the book that is 343 and if so, read there and see what it says. my guess is the amount of change in Ray's pocket meant nothing and he just bought something and had 3.43 left in change and stuffed it in his pocket. but then again, these weird sk's do some weird stuff. they think weird things ,especially, if they believe in weird stuff, they will "work their magic" so to speak; or they are leaving their calling card in a disguised manner

Saint Malo Beach.... ADDRESS CLUE?
Maybe it was not the mayors that he was trying to dump the body at? Maybe it was the ADDRESS that had a clue?
The cab was left at the 400 block of pacific 2 streets from St Malo
2.2 miles away is the Army and Navy Academy. It is at Carlsbad. Malo in Spanish is BAD... Carls BAD - Saint BAD.
This could just be a fluke, but maybe it isn't. Maybe it is a clue where he came from, or was, or is?
The army and navy academy is also 2 streets from Pacific Ave. In Carlsbad Village (adding - that is weird, and flukey, I just remembered that BTK used a Carlsbad stamp on something. Don't quote me on that, but I do think I remember that, I always thought it was weird. I'll have to check on that though, I might be remembering wrong) The 400 block of St Malo Ave(where the cab was found is also 2 streets from Pacific Ave The body and cab were found in the alley of S Pacific Ave - the cab was 1.5 miles down the alley from the body
Was the Naval academy there in 1962?

Cab Drivers and Postmaster.
I'm just brainstorming here. Ray was a cab driver. His step father(who is also his uncle) is a cab driver and a post master.
Zodiac later kills Paul Stine, a Cab Driver... He later sends in postal keys(in the 1990 Eureka Card).
None of this means anything, but I'm just jotting down notes.
I'm noticing a few more things that are flukey with these people, but I can't post some of it, or it will alert to something. but this is all getting pretty interesting. I find two other names connected to this family that pop up in later years. I can't post the names.
The "Dance With The Dead" book is about the detective in Hawaii who is in a cab and shot at. (this means something to me)

Notes to myself so I don't forget.....The reason they interest me is they were in that area, and a lot of the Z communications have clues in them pointing to Troy Houghton, but it might not be Troy Houghton, it might be someone pretending to be him. (Discussed on other threads below) Mower and Houghton info
Harold "Troy" Houghton was living in San Diego at the time had moved back there in 1961 At some point Troy Houghton and Dennis Mower were very close friends. Dennis Patrick Mower was in high school in Van Nuys in 1962. That is about 100 miles away. He was 16 and in high school, don't let the age fool you. His father was living in Hollywood area. Ophion's old boardPastor Dennis P. Mower zodiackiller.forumotion.com/t445-pastor-dennis-p-mowerinfo on this thread tells us how young Dennis Mower is, but also all the people he was around and what all he was involved in at such a young age even while in high school. He joined the Minutemen at age 15, he was a pastor of a church, he was a friend of kkk Imperial Wizard Sam Bowers, he lived all over the place, while still in high school it is "said" he was offered 100,000 to assassinate MLK. And his father was a hollywood actor... makes since Dennis Mower would know how to change his appearance any time he chose. this all means nothing really, but I'm just clicking on the fact that this cab driver was in San Diego county and Troy Houghton had moved back to San Diego in 1961(Good friends with Dennis Mower but not sure which year they became close friends. Dennis was only 16 in 1962 but had already been arrested for theft, fire bombings, was a minuteman, etc. His age was really young for all he really did. Don't think of Dennis as a child, he wasn't. And he was good friends with KKK Imperial Wizard Sam Bowers; not sure when this started) I have found so many Troy Houghten clues in the zodiac communications, it is crazy, so "if" they or someone they are connected to, are part of Zodiac(I think it is more than one person involved) then they are down close to that area.

Who were the Mayors at the houses where the body was dumped?
just going to list all the mayors I find and see if I can figure out which ones were the two mayors living at the two houses where the cab driver's body was found. Erwin SklarErwin sklar was one of the Mayors of Oceanside at the time April 9 1962 - the mayor erwin sklar is member of San Luis Rey water conservation district. he is addressing about flood control of the river. its affecting the city, a lot of commercial stuff and the new harbor. It opened around March 1951 and r emained in the ownership of the Sklar’s until the mid-1960’s when it was sold to a property developer who purchased other theatres in Oceanside. The Crest Theatre was operated by Pussycat Theatres, and continued as a movie theatre into at least the late-1980’s. It is now used as a church (Grace Church) but movies can still be screened, as in summer of 2004, when Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” had screenings. cinematreasures.org/theaters/9572The story behind the story ( San Diego Union Tribune)www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sdut-the-story-behind-the-story-2001sep26-story.htmlSEP. 26, 2001 12 AM TOM MORROW Staff Writer Oceanside Mayor Terry Johnson couldn’t let the death of Bertha Sklar go by without letting everyone know just how important a role she played in the city acquiring ownership of the Sunshine BrooksTheater. The widow of the late Oceanside Mayor Erwin Sklar, who was a movie theater operator in the downtown area during the ‘50s and'60s, tipped off the city as to the ownership of the old TowneTheatre. “One-third of the building was owned by an elderly woman with Alzheimer’s,” Terry told me. “She couldn’t help us, but Larry Hatter remembered the Sklars once ran the old Towne Theatre, so he called Bertha to see if she remembered who owned the building.” Bertha told Larry that Hattie “Sunshine” Brooks of La Jolla was the owner, but because the Towne was in a blind trust, that information wasn’t publicly available. Larry learned who Mrs. Brooks’ accountant was, and, after making a proposal of her"gifting” the theater to the city, the city ended up with a community theater. “Without Bertha Sklar, we would never have known who owned the Towne,” says Terry. “Good people never stop being citizens.” ADD SKLAR -- Carlsbad developer Doug Avis also weighed in on my Monday column regarding the death of Bertha Sklar. “Your mentioning Erwin Sklar due to the passing of his widow, Bertha, brought back some fond memories about a smaller Oceanside,"Doug recalled. “I spent four years as a member of the Crest Theatre Little League Team (1955-1958). Mr. Sklar would host the team periodically for a free ‘day at the movies’ at the Crest. He was a very kind man and even paid for us to have a little popcorn.” Doug said that, later, when he became an Oceanside city council member, he came to understand the personal efforts and expense Erwin invested into the almost impossible task of not only securing the ability to use federal land for the Oceanside Harbor, but also securing the funding to build it." (Sklar) traveled endless hours back to Washington to make it happen. Needless to say, Oceanside would not be the place it is today without that harbor,” says Doug. “I hope the members of the Sklar family know what a great service Mr. Sklar served for future generations of North County residents.” FROM MARS -- “I was thinking about taking out a mortgage on my house, so I talked to a couple of mortgage lenders about it. Come to find out I’d be much better off using my wife’s shoe collection as collateral -- more equity!” -- Neal Mars, Oceanside Notes for Tom Morrow can be e-mailed to tmorrow@nctimes.com,faxed to (760) 757-2072, or call (760) 901-4074. Other things happening in March & Early April 1962
March 12, 1962 (Monday) Cuba began the rationing of rice, beans, and lard throughout the nation, and of beef, chicken, fish, eggs, and milk in Havana, and introduced the "libreta", literally the "little book", of rationing coupons for families
March 13, 1962 (Tuesday) Operation Northwoods, a top secret proposal to use American funding for terror attacks within the United States, was presented to U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara by Army General L. L. Lemnitzer, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. With the goal of carrying out violent acts that could be blamed on the Communist government in Cuba in order to get support for an invasion, the proposals included exploding an empty U.S. Navy ship in Guantanamo Bay and creating a false list of casualties; and faking an attack, to be blamed on Cuba, on a chartered airliner flying from the United States. The most incredible proposal was to simulate a "Communist Cuban terror campaign in the Miami area, other Florida cities, and even in Washington", including "exploding a few plastic bombs in carefully chosen spots", and directed against Cuban refugees "even to the point of wounding." The plan, which would be declassified in 2001, was vetoed by McNamara before it reached President Kennedy.
March 14, 1962 (Wednesday) Edward M. "Teddy" Kennedy, the 30-year-old brother of U.S. President John F. Kennedy and U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for the United States Senate seat that had been held by JFK. The incumbent, Benjamin A. Smith II, was a Kennedy family friend who had been appointed to fill the seat until a special election could be scheduled. Ted Kennedy, who had to wait until his 30th birthday, on February 22, to become eligible, would win the primary and general election, and then re-election in 1964, 1970, 1976, 1982, 1988, 1994, 2000 and 2006, serving for almost 47 years until his death in 2009
March 15, 1962 (Thursday) In an address to a joint session of the U.S. Congress and a milestone in the history of consumer protection, President Kennedy asked for the passage of the "Consumer Bill of Rights". The President listed four basic rights that should be guaranteed by the federal government to American purchasers of goods and services— the right to safety, the right to be informed, the right to choose and the right to be heard. The Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871 April 20, 1871 The Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871 also known as the Civil Rights Act of 1871, Force Act of 1871, Ku Klux Klan Act, Third Enforcement Act, or Third Ku Klux Klan Act, is an Act of the United States Congress which empowered the President to suspend the writ of habeas corpus to combat the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) and other white supremacy organizations. Image courtesy of the Library of Congress
On April 20, 1871, President Ulysses S. Grant, shown with Secretary of the Navy George M. Robeson and presidential advisor General Horace Porter in this Frank Leslie’s Illustrated print, signed the Third Ku Klux Klan Act, which enforced the 14th Amendment by guaranteeing all citizens of the United States the rights afforded by the Constitution and providing legal protection under the law. On this date, the House approved “An Act to enforce the Provisions of the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, and for other Purposes,” also known as the “Ku Klux Klan Act.” Introduced as H.R. 320 on March 28, 1871, by Representative Samuel Shellabarger of Ohio, the bill passed the House on April 6 and returned from the Senate with amendments on April 14. After nearly a week of heated debate in the House and the Senate, the chambers reconciled their differences on April 20 when the House agreed to the conference report on H.R. 320 and the Senate concurred. The Ku Klux Klan Act, the third of a series of increasingly stringent Enforcement Acts, was designed to eliminate extralegal violence and protect the civil and political rights of four million freed slaves. The 14th Amendment, ratified in 1868, defined citizenship and guaranteed due process and equal protection of the law to all. Vigilante groups like the Ku Klux Klan, however, freely threatened African Americans and their white allies in the South and undermined the Republican Party’s plan for Reconstruction. The bill authorized the President to intervene in the former rebel states that attempted to deny “any person or any class of persons of the equal protection of the laws, or of equal privileges or immunities under the laws.” To take action against this newly defined federal crime, the President could suspend habeas corpus, deploy the U.S. military, or use “other means, as he may deem necessary.” Opponents denounced the bill as an unconstitutional attack on state governments and individual liberty. “All the powers of the Government . . . will be absorbed in the hands of one man,” warned James M. Leach of North Carolina. Administration supporter William E. Lansing of New York rejected the “mischievous doctrine of State sovereignty” and cited the prevalence of “acts of outrage and violence . . . which the States where they occur have either no power or will to prevent.” David P. Lowe of Kansas stressed that the legislation fulfilled the 14th Amendment’s promise of equal protection under the law. “Let the different classes of our populations feel that the interest and welfare of one is the interest and welfare of all.” After both chambers of Congress agreed to the conference report on April 20, President Ulysses S. Grant signed the bill into law later that day. Nearly six months later, in October 1871, Grant used these powers in several South Carolina counties, demonstrating the willingness of the Republican-led federal government to take decisive action to protect the civil and political rights of the freed people during Reconstruction. 1960-1962 SDS (Students for a Democratic Society) Ann Arbor Michigan(everything connectes to Michigan) SDS developed from the youth branch of a socialist educational organization known as the League for Industrial Democracy (LID).
SDS developed from the youth branch of a socialist educational organization known as the League for Industrial Democracy (LID). LID's themselves descended from an older student organization, the Intercollegiate Socialist Society, founded in 1905 by Upton Sinclair, Walter Lippmann, Clarence Darrow, and Jack London. Early in 1960, to broaden the scope for recruitment beyond labor issues, the Student League for Industrial Democracy were reconstituted as SDS . They held their first meeting in 1960 on the University of Michigan campus at Ann Arbor, where Alan Haber was elected president. The SDS manifesto, known as the Port Huron Statement, was adopted at the organization's first convention in June 1962, based on an earlier draft by staff member Tom Hayden.
my note, you will find Alan Haber in the COINTELPRO docs. I'll be listing some of those. He's in the Weatherman investigations. There are ties to Michigan and San Fran etc to the Zodiac.

April 10, 1962 -Playing at the Crest Theater (Oceanside, Crest Theater) Double Feather: Terror Of The Blood Invasion Of The Animal People On April 10, 1962, the day of the murder of Ray Davis, at the Crest Theater was playing a Double Feature. The movies were, Invasion Of The Animal People and Terror Of The Bloodhunters. The body of Ray Davis was found in the alley near the houses of two mayors, Erwin Sklar and Joe McDonald. Erwin Sklar owned the Crest Theater. None if this probably has anything to do with anything, however, I'm going to take a look at it. I do have a "thought" about it. Because Zodiac seemed to like different books, movies, titles etc (or it is thought he might have) then maybe the movie that was showing at the Crest that night set him off in some way. Invasion Of The Animal People
Here is a poster for the single movie, not the double feature, it might be different actors?
Shot in 1958 Aliens release a furry critter in the wilds of Lapland where it takes a woman captive and threatens a group of scientists. The scientists fly up to Lappland in an SAS Convair 440 Metroliner, "Trygve Viking", then onto the landing site in a Swedish army Noorduyn Norseman. After a herd of reindeer are mysteriously found dead following a meteor crash in a remote part of Sweden, soldiers and a geologist are called out to investigate. Just as they discover that the meteor is actually a spaceship, a hideous monster destroys their plane and kills the soldier guarding it. As the geologist (along with his figure skater girlfriend) are trying to ski to safety, the monster attacks again and kidnaps the helpless woman. What is this creature, and can it be stopped? Terror of the Bloodhunters was shot in Griffith Park in Los Angeles, with a lot of stock footage added from other films
This is the poster from the single movie, not the double feature.
An escaped prisoner flees to the South American jungle, where he must survive not only wild animals and disease, but a ferocious Indian tribe.
From a review: The "story" here takes place on Devil's Island where two new prisoners (Robert Clarke, William White) make their escape with a commandant's daughter (Dorothy Haney) but the three soon find their plan destroyed as they have to make their way through deep jungles and fight off snakes, disease and bloodhunters.
Another review: The film is set in South America at some French penal colony like Devil's Island. Oddly, however, not one person in the film has a French accent and the film seems about as French as Chop Suey. In fact, throughout the film there are clumsily inserted scenes of native dancing girls who are supposed to be South American--but they clearly are Asians living in the South American jungle!!
"Terror of the Bloodhunters" begins with a shipment of prisoners being brought to the island. One of them, Steve Duval (Robert Clarke) is a political prisoner--sent there because of the books he's written. The commandant's dissatisfied daughter, Marlene (Dorothy Haney) is dying to escape the wretched place and helps Duval to escape. Together with one of Duval's expendable friends they set into the dense jungle (the sort made up mostly of old stock footage). Can they survive? And, more importantly, do you even care?
The film is extremely talky, has almost no bloodhunters in it and it a pretty dull film. Clearly it's bad but it is amazingly low-key and lacks the tackiness I'd hoped to find. Instead, it's just boring--and not a film I could recommend unless you either need to get some sleep or if you are a masochist. I was digging around this morning and found some addresses in Oceanside that were interesting, one is 519 Freeman St. Oceanside. it is about half mile to Mission. I don't know where at on Mission that the cabby picked up the killer, but it is said to be on Mission ave. So I was poking around in some fbi files and ran into the address of 519 Freeman st Oceanside, which turns out to be where some radical groups lived at one time who are also connected to Guerrero st, in San Francisco. I clicked on that and tried to figure out just who(by name) was living at these houses. I have not found an actual NAME of a person but I do know that at both addresses were several radical groups who were considered terrorist revolutionary groups at the time and were under investigation by COINTELPRO... so I started digging. That was this morning and I still have a TON of docs I am going through and other info. I've made a CATCH-ALL thread for all of the info I'm digging up. I don't want to put it on this thread of it will clutter the thread all up. But I do need to get all the info out posted as I am finding it, or I'm going to lose it. So I made another thread ONLY for posting the info. Then we can go through it and post anything over here that might connect to the oceanside Ray Davis cabby case of 1962. here is the CATCH-ALL thread for all the info as I find it. CATCH-ALL Thread For COINTELPRO Docs & Info Connected To Ztheslaughterhouse.freeforums.net/thread/445/catch-thread-cointelpro-docs-connectedThis set of documents has a ton of info in them related to SDS, Weathermen, anti-war groups, you name it; all the radical factions all working together and connected to San Diego, Oceanside, New York, Michigan, overseas out of country, San Fran, Washington, Chicago etc. I'm trying to see if the addresses at 519 Freeman in Oceanside, in area of(Ray Davis Cabby Murder 1962) is connected to address 491 Guerrero ST San Fran and Cabby murder of STine in San Fran 1969. I know the addresses have the same groups at them, so therefore, the people in these groups could be at both addresses. and just POSSIBLY Zodiac is in one of these groups and at these addresses, killing both cabbies? Long shot, but no way to know until we go through all the docs and see if there is any info in here that helps. SDS/ later splintered off to become Weatherman. The "new left" was a primarily white, campus-based, initially non-marxist oppositional movement which emerged in the aftermath of the 1950s ("McCarthyite") repression of "old left" political formations such as the CP,USA. Beginning with the establishment of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) by a handful of college radicals including Al Haber and Tom Hayden during 1960-61, the new left had by the end of the decade come to encompass a multiplicity of organizations and literally hundreds of thousands of participants. Along the way, it had engaged itself in a range of issues and activities including the pursuit of a vision of "participatory democracy," support to civil rights and black liberation groups like SNCC and the BPP, socio-economic reform in the inner cities, transformation of the educational process, attempts to hammer out a "new working class theory," anti-Vietnam war endeavors and, ultimately, a neo-marxian form of antiimperialism SDS, later splintered off into the Weatherman.

The address I am interested in to begin with is the 519 Freeman street. as you can see this Freeman st address is .5 miles to Mission Ave. Depending on where on Mission Ave the Taxi picked up the killer, it could be as much as 3 1/2 miles away from Freeman... but if someone just left the Freeman address and went to the corner of Mission, it is 1/2 mile. If they walked or drove etc to the corner of Mission Ave from the Freeman address, and then got picked up on Mission by Ray Davis the Cabby in that area of Mission Ave, then it is 1.8 miles from the freeman address and it is 2 1/2 miles from the Mission corner of Freeman to 1926 S. Pacific where the cab was went.
and if you are 400 block of s pacific, and you go to the 519 freeman address, you see that there are not through streets to that freeman address from 400 block of s pacific unless you come back two blocks and cut over.
and look how close it is to just jump the train track and head straight as the crow flies to 519 Freeman Address

now here is the thing.... I know what group use to live at this 519 freeman address but I don't know exactly which individuals were living there, but I can just about guarantee you some of them were also living on Gurrero st in san francisco. I can figure out who was living on guerrero, but I don't have access to the 1962 city directory of oceanside, it is not online, so I can't figure that out so I can compare with who was living at the Guerrero street in sf both in 1962 and on until 1969 (during the Stine cabby murder of 1969) If anyone can find the names of the individuals who were living at 519 Freeman st Oceanside ca in 1962, or even other years for that matter, it certainly would help.
we can also find the names of the ORGs listed there. I have some but they are not showing names I can compare. I know there were the same groups connected to both addresses.
In 1962 Paul Stine was living in Hughson CA( PO box 78, Hughson; outside of modesto in 1969 when he was killed he was living on fell street sf.

The other address is at 491 Guerrero Street San Fran. In 1962 this was a Real Estate Tobby's Golden Key Realty Milton V Tobby Property Management General Real Estate and Insurance 491 Guerrero Tel - Klondike 2-1967 ____________ Pacific Counseling Service opened in october 1969 same month Paul Stine is killed (edit, another doc says it opened in Dec 1969) so I don't know for sure yet, which is correct, October or December, but even it is Dec, I would imagine they had to move there, rent a place and get settled in before they opened, so I'm thinking maybe October would not be that far off of the people actually BEING there even if they were not opened yet. I'll try to find out which doc is correct. But if someone who was down in oceanside with these people, moved up and was helping to set up or run the one in SF and had just got there, who is to say the person did not go out and kill a cabby just like they did in oceanside? Again, I think we have a loose cannon in one of these groups. The groups, and there are several tied together, but they are all connected to the Weathermen. before that they were SDS, LID, YSA, etc, later when they were really radical by the time of the stine murder we are talking strong revolutionary radical groups tied to the weathermen, black panthers, sla etc. And of course who was always there in the midst of all these groups - COINTELPRO, all documented in the docs I posted on the INCOTELPRO/Z thread, where I will be adding TONS of documents to prove this they are listed at some point at 491 Guerrero, SF I don't know if they were using that address when they first opened or not will try to find out, if so, they are anti-was activists, connected to the other groups. interesting There is our little Joker Jester guy

Got to go through these new docs. I think I can figure out who they are talking about and that should give us a name at least and another location on Guerrero St. San Fran who is connected to the same people on freeman st in oceanside. I'm really wondering if people at these two addresses have anything to do with Zodiac, I'm pretty sure they really could, so much so, I'm spending a ton of time going through this stuff to see if it matches up. I'll post the docs and then go back through the posts and add the research for the info and figure out who this is and the other addresses remember I post all the docs over on the doc thread so I don't clutter up this thread. so check over there for the docs. If I run into something that totally 100% connects up then I'll bring that info over here. docs are here CATCH-ALL Thread For COINTELPRO Docs & Info Connected To Ztheslaughterhouse.freeforums.net/thread/445/catch-thread-cointelpro-docs-connected

okay I posted 7 more pages of docs. what I get out of those is this.
There is some subject person that INCOTELPRO is after. He is connected up to 491 Guerrero in SF for sure. The groups(and there are several) are at both the Guerrero address and the 519 Freeman Oceanside address. These are the very same groups of people who later become the Weathermen and in SF they are of course connected to every Radical group there is.
In the docs they are getting info from a SA (special agent) so someone is infiltrated in the groups or they were in the group, got caught doing some and it "ratting" on them. I can't tell which yet.
There is a LOT of subject info on the guy they are looking for and he is connected all over the USA to different groups and other charters of the same groups, and he is also connected over seas. They are dead after this guy, so he has to causing something a lot worse than all the other group members because the fed docs are not mentioning watching, looking, etc, any of the other group members or people at the address.
They are watching the other group members running up and down the street with "printing materials" so they are wondering something about printing things.
also keep in mind this is INCOTELPRO and they start right in the in very first doc stating they have Weatherman's CODE and they are going to fake news ads by using the code to try to get some response from a REAL weatherman. They also say they can't print the fake codes in the Berkeley Tribe as the Berkeley Tribe will recognize the code... so someone at the Berkeley Tribe has to know the Weatherman Code.
Now, how many people have a CODE? well many could I guess but ... maybe Zodiac is using the Weatherman's code?
The feds never admit they can decode the z stuff, so they are saying they do not know the z code... but they also have never mentioned they knew the Weatherman code either... but there it is in the doc...they do know it... so they might just know the Z code as well.
And I have always thought they did because I see articles in the news with Z code in it and it is not from Z, you can just tell. So I have to wonder, is it possible that Zodiac is using the Weatherman Code?
And we also have to wonder, how many of the Z communications or ads is really the feds faking z communications. Maybe this is why some sound different with a different style or they are weird ads that say the things that would never be said out there?
Just brainstorming here. Go read the docs for yourself and see if you can figure them out. i'll study them more, try to figure out who the heck they are talking about and then I'll add some more docs.
but one thing for sure, that address in Oceanside is the same groups as the ones at the Guerrero st address in SF, and with the docs stating this one person they are watching is connected all over, then it certainly makes sense that some of these groups are connected all over as well, going back and forth.

Just making a note for myself, after jumping ahead and reading a couple more docs I have not posted yet but will try to get on here tonight or tomorrow. but it got me to thinking as I read something. Check the dates of the zodiac killings with the LOTTERY PICK numbers of the draft - first picks. this is just a random thought and means nothing, but then again, maybe it does mean something? I need to check and find the lottery numbers for the years of viet nam war.
Another thought. The murdered cabby, Ray Davis and his brother had just went to Oceanside in early January 1962. They had not been there but a few months; and Ray's brother, Jack Nelson Davis, was stationed at Camp Pendleton there. So did they go to Oceanside because Jack had to go to Camp Pendleton? And how did they feel about Jack having been at Camp Pendleton. Did he voluntarily join or was he drafted? when did the draft start? what year? (I need to figure all this out) let me go do this.
ok below is the info, so Ray's brother Jack Nelson Davis would NOT have been DRAFTED in 1962 as the lottery did not start until December 1969. So Jack must have joined on purpose because he wanted to join. I just wanted to see if maybe he was anti-war and someone did not like that etc... but looks like the draft had nothing to do with his brother's killing... unless he and his brother were avid anti-war protesters at the time AFTER Jack voluntarily joined. Or perhaps Jack and ray voice there PRO war opinions and got into it with some of the protesters. hmmm, you never know. Have to keep that in mind.
I'm not even sure Jack was "IN" the army, he might have been ONLY WORKING there.
THE VIETNAM LOTTERIES
A lottery drawing - the first since 1942 - was held on December 1, 1969, at Selective Service National Headquarters in Washington, D.C. This event determined the order of call for induction during calendar year 1970; that is, for registrants born between January 1, 1944, and December 31, 1950. Reinstitution of the lottery was a change from the "draft the oldest man first" method, which had been the determining method for deciding order of call.
There were 366 blue plastic capsules containing birth dates placed in a large glass container and drawn by hand to assign order-of-call numbers to all men within the 18-26 age range specified in Selective Service law.
With radio, film, and TV coverage, the capsules were drawn from the container, opened, and the dates inside posted in order. The first capsule - drawn by Congressman Alexander Pirnie (R-NY) of the House Armed Services Committee - contained the date September 14, so all men born on September 14 in any year between 1944 and 1950 were assigned lottery number 1. The drawing continued until all days of the year had been paired with sequence numbers.
The last draft call was on December 7, 1972, and the authority to induct expired on June 30, 1973. The date of the last drawing for the lottery was on March 12, 1975. Registration with the Selective Service System was suspended on April 1, 1975, and registrant processing was suspended on January 27, 1976

another thought that is just a random thought to think about... "Dance With The Dead"
would the title of the book, Dance with the dead have anything at all to do with Jack Nelson Davis being in the military or at Camp Pendleton? Being the 519 Freeman address was an address of these anti-war groups, and being Jack Davis was military at Camp Pendleton, could there be any connection that Ray and Jack got into it with some of these anti-war people who lived at that address? and if so, what might the title of the book, "Dance with the dead" be "saying"? anything at all? another random thought to think about and try to figure out.
I'm just looking for any reason someone comes up and shoots a cabby like that.
What exactly does it mean to Dance With The Dead? we know it is a detective book but what do those words actually mean? I guess to be able to Dance with the dead you pretty much have to be dead yourself? or the dead have to come back to life? or you are going to be dancing with a corpse. hmmm .... corpse... corps... scoper... let me go see something about the pronunciation of corps I think it is more like COR? but maybe it is also corps... just being a little z'ish and btk'ish here with phonics. let me go look.
this is probably not going to make any sense to anyone but me, but this is how the z code works so let me do this out here.
Dance With They Dead
Dance = party, a dance is a party for one. with the along with pretty self explanatory
Dead = Corpse.. Corps is pronounced KOR... but it surely looks like it is pronounces corps like in corpse. It this early Z code stuff? I don't know. it's possible, ... a corps is a party also, just like dance. one definition of corps is Party, so have dead and dance = party , there really is a CHECK... so that is kind of flukey, but you really don't pronounce corps as corpse, but it is the first word you think of. and a lot of people do pronounce it wrong. so this is all interesting. I don't want to force things and try to make them fit, but it does have a check and that is a little weird, so I'll keep this in mind.
and then think about this also... if you find the 4 freckles, you have the clue to solving the murder(in the book story)... and what do we have on the halloween card? the 4 dots... now lets look at words equivalent to freckles. I bet you dots is one of them. let me go look ... in the list DOT is the 5th word you can choose for freckle, so that works also. but if any of this is done on purpose then that tells us zodiac was using a code way back in 1962 and had stuff planned out in this code for the 4 dots way back then before the halloween card. if so, then z's code dates back to at least 1962 to have the same things going on, code wise.
now this is probably all just flukey stuff, I would want to see this stuff going on consistantly to think it really is doing this. but it is working, and that is something to think about

one of the docs over on the other thread lists Allan Haber.... they spelled his name wrong, his name is Robert Alan Haber (one L in Haber not two)... why do they have HIM in the incotelpro docs? beyond me, but I guess because he started SDS in 1960.
what I find interesting about this is SDS was started in Ann Arbor Michigan there we are again... every dang time we are taken back to Michigan, what the heck is up with THAT? everything originates there, why? and Ray Davis and his brother are from Michigan also. is that just flukey or is there something going on. were they involved with the people at 519 Freeman in Oceanside? maybe they thought like they did? did someone not like that? Is that why Ray was shot? not BY them but because of someone who did not like them? hmmm well if so, I have a good idea who hated the SDS... for sure. hmmm . here is the info on that ... a Blank page with two typed notices of articles in Ann Arbor Michigan.. dated 1965 0r 66... concerning allan haber... hmm interesting. he was an activist hooked up with SDS. not sure why he is in the incotelpro docs. Guess because he started SDS and was for peace and democracy and so they labeled him a "commie" ? who knows. My info on this. not from the docs. They spelled Alan Haber's name wrong. It has one L not two. And his real name is Robert Alan Haber. He formed SDS in 1960 in Michigan. there we are with the Michigan connection again. here is info on him, I'm just going to copy it off and post it here with the link. Robert Alan Haber is an American activist. He was the first president of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), a U.S. radical student activist organization. Haber was elected at the first meeting of SDS in 1960 . FBI files at the time indicated his official title as Field Secretary. Described variously at the time as "Ann Arbor's resident radical" and "reticent visionary", Haber organized a human rights conference in April of that year which "marked the debut of SDS" and invited four organizers of the 1960 NAACP sit-ins against segregated lunch counters in Greensboro, North Carolina. Haber "came from a leftist background". His father William Haber, an economist, former dean and professor at the University of Michigan, was an "energetic" supporter of U.S. president Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal with socialist-progressive sympathies. Haber's parents named him after former Wisconsin governor, congressman and senator Robert M. La Follette, Sr., advocate of the Wisconsin Idea political reforms in the late 19th century and early 20th century. Haber has one brother. Haber makes a living as a cabinetmaker. Currently,[when?] he is working on the Megiddo Peace Project, and is involved with the revival of Students for a Democratic Society (2006 organization) He helped found the Berkeley, California Long Haul Infoshop, an anarchist resource center and community space In 1954, Haber enrolled at the University of Michigan. He graduated in 1965 my note - 11 yrs later? is this right? Haber lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan with his partner Odile Hugonot-Haber en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Haber videos now of Robert Alan Haber www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltwgPQznY88www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrtXpUU2XSk
