here is Ellen and joseph's marriage info
they were married in 1931... the boy who Nichols' took the ID was born in 1937... that is 6 years after they were married.. so are there other children before the boy of the ID? you would think so. most people then had kids within a year or two after being married. so who and where are they, and if not.. I have to wonder again... was this boy their real biological son? something to think about. In 6 years of marriage in that day and age you normally had more than one child.
so they got their license in the Bronx and then got married in Manhattan. Not that it matters but trying to figure out if they are connected to Nichols in any way and to do that I have to know where all they were.

the married last names of Ellen Kaaber's sisters are Petti Geis Bennett
maybe some of these are married into or related to Nichols. I'll check
it is really weird how he chose that name to get. not even the same states they are in. you just pick a name out of some state out of the blue... he either knows them or he saw the obituary some where or something. how did he know where that boy was born in order to get the birth certificate. this will drive me bonkers til I figure it out haha

so the only think so far that even slightly connects up, is that Nichols had postmarks from Oklahoma, and the chandlers were living in tulsa OK at the time of their death. So I wonder if he knew them in Oklahoma? saw the obit in Oklahoma? or what. the connection must be in oklahoma. let me go try to find something in Tulsa that might connect them up.
And what was Nichols doing in OKlahoma anyway. And who did he mail a letter to from there? ... and then also in Virginia he had postmark. He's just running around everywhere. LOL. Makes you wonder if he was using anyone else's ID during that time?

This is Robert Ivan Nichols' Uncle Vincent, Robert's mother's brother
his uncle is in whittier in 1992 Name: Vincent Schreiber Address: 13277 Meyer Rd Apt B, Whittier, CA, 90605-3580 (1991) [11103 Dicky St, Whittier, CA, 90606-1823 (1992)]
Name: Vincent H Schreiber Social Security #: 401012898 Gender: Male Birth Date: 5 Oct 1903 Birth Place: Indiana Death Date: 22 Jan 1991 Death Place: Los Angeles Mother's Maiden Name: Hessing
he was married to helen baxter
so he died in Los Angeles. He was a year younger than Robert even though he was Robert's Uncle. Maybe Robert Ivan Nichols went out to california to see is uncle who was a year younger? they might have been close. I'll have to find dates. I don't know what years his uncle was in cali, only that he died there. If I find more I'll come back and add it to this post.
all the other uncles and aunts were still living back in Indiana, except for one was living in ohio.
____________ note.... his uncle Paul Schreiber married a clara "belle" smith.... Joseph Newton Chandler of the boy... the father's mom was lillian smith(born in Eldorado Arkansas 1902?(I need to recheck that)... that is such a common name though, but I'll check and see if they were related. I don't seem to find a connection...there might be one, but it does not seem to be in the immediate family...but I could have missed it... the name Smith is hard to research especially when they marry and are someone else. ugh.
Name: Lillian Drayton Chandler (this is lillian smith, grandmother of the boy who died and nichols used his ID) Birth Date: 10 Mar 1871 Birth Place: Arkansas, United States of America Death Date: 25 Mar 1952 Death Place: Weatherford, Parker County, Texas, United States of America Cemetery: City Greenwood Cemetery Burial or Cremation Place: Weatherford, Parker County, Texas, United States of America Father: Joshua Soule Smith Mother: M. Carrie Smith Spouse: Joseph Newton Chandler Children: Carol Chandler Joseph Newton Chandler This is the father of the boy, they both died in the auto accident along with the boys mother.
note... In 1978 he worked for Edko Company, an engineering business in Cleveland and later worked as an electrical designer and draftsman for Lubrizol, a chemical company headquartered in Wickliffe, Ohio. The company laid him off in 1997. He had claimed to have a sister named "Mary Wilson"; however, the address he provided for her in Columbus, Ohio was fictitious. It was eventually revealed that Nichols was actually born at the same address in New Albany.
so I find a mary wilson out of ky married to edward chandler. I don't think it has to do with anything but just making a note for later in case is does and I can't find this again.

Gee, this guy was just totally off the radar... where did he go and what did he do? whatever he was doing for a few years not accounted for, he really must have been doing it under another name, because he is nowhere to be found....being that we know he got the one ID of a deceased person, who is to say he did not get another, or another and another? He could have been anywhere, under several names. This guy seems to be good at what he did.... but I'm determined to find him LOL

okay, so Robert Ivan Nichols father is Silas Henry Nichols His grandfather is Silas Henry Nichols Jr . (yes the grandfather has the jr, not the father) the grandfather was born in Bibb County Georgia.... I remember that Joseph Newton Chandlers grandfather is also from Georgia, (I have to check where and when)
Silas Henry Nichols brother John Bartholomew Nichols - Robert's uncle is born in Louisville KY His brother James vincent "Nick" nichols is born in new albany indiana where the family finally settles Robert's father silas Nichols is born in New albany Indiana Robert Ivan Nichols is also born there brother marvin nichols is also born there.
so now the question is... was Robert's grandfather born in Georgia connected to Joseph Newton Chandler's grandfather also from Georgia I'll try to figure that out and come back and post what I find here.
Name: Dr Joseph Newton Chandler Birth Date: 27 Nov 1863 Birth Place: Banks County, Georgia, United States of America Death Date: 1 Mar 1939 Death Place: Weatherford, Parker County, Texas, United States of America Cemetery: City Greenwood Cemetery Burial or Cremation Place: Weatherford, Parker County, Texas, United States of America Has Bio?: Y Father: Joseph Newton Chandler Mother: Delina J Chandler Spouse: Lillian Drayton Chandler Children: Carol Chandler Joseph Newton Chandler

People who worked with Chandler during his years in the Cleveland area described him as a loner who was quiet, intelligent and eccentric. Elliott said Nichols would disappear for extended periods of time, telling co-workers "they are getting close" without providing details. A packed suitcase was found in his apartment.oklahoman.com/article/feed/3222041/real-name-of-mystery-man-who-died-in-2002-revealedSo he had a packed suitcase when he died. I wonder if he just kept one handy, or if he intended on going somewhere rather than kill himself? and WHO was getting close? And where was he going for "extended" periods of time. another thing I wonder... if he knew he was going to kill himself, why did he not give away that $82,000? and where did that come from anyway? Why was he even saving it, just to kill himself and let it go nowhere? and obviously "someone" it getting close... All of this really makes me wonder if someone did not kill him _____________ okay here is says the suitcase was always packed and ready to go all the time"He lived very quietly...didn't talk a lot," said Elliott. "He had a suitcase...packed and go all the time. He was ready to go all the time. What he was running from, if there was anything, I don't know ." fox8.com/2018/06/21/who-was-joseph-newton-chandler-iii-authorities-to-reveal-true-identity-of-mystery-man/so if he has this suitcase packed and ready to go at all times.... why does he not have some money stashed in there also? He must think if he has to run that he can still get the money out of his bank...so that does not sound like he is running from the cops, or he would be leaving a trail for cops if he has to get into his bank to get money. And if he had to stop and get the money out somewhere along the line, there is another trail to follow where he is at. Cops could track that... He would know that... so why not have his money accessible to where the cops can't track it..... so this leaves me to wonder if it were not the COPS after him, but rather someone else who could not track him through his bank. ...... or, if he knew he was going to kill himself, he took the money out of the house and put it in the bank? it would be nice to see his bank statements. he also worked under his real name until 1976... does not sound like he was running for the cops at that time, or he would have gotten a new ID long before that. so what was he running from before that, which he thought did not require him changing his name? but then in 1978, he decides he has to change his name. But he did not change his bank account?... this really does tell me he is not running from the law... you don't think the cops are going to find you and leave your money in a bank account under your own name... that is a HUGE paper trail. I think he is running from "Some One". but who? you also don't work under your own name if the cops are after you. You don't write home under your own name either. so who is chasing this guy. For him to disappear that well, he knew not to do all these things if it were the cops after him. It would be the child support, they would find him at his job and the bank account, so he was not running from that. And he also changed his name long after he had to pay child support. And if it stacked up over the years for 3 kids, he certainly is not going to leave all that money in the bank if he did not want to pay it. hmmm

Nichols was described as being a hermit who only left his home to go to work and eat.[9] Co-workers have said he rarely talked to anyone and appeared to have few or no friends.[4][5] In one instance at a Halloween gathering in 1992, he came to the event dressed as a gangster, yet talked to no one the entire night.[12] He also took part in behavior perceived as eccentric and unusual, such as listening to white noise for hours, and once drove to an L.L. Bean store in Maine (a drive of at least ten hours and 700 miles/1,100 km), only to promptly turn around and drive back to Ohio after discovering that there were no spots available in the store's parking lot.[5] In 1989 he arrived at a local hospital with lacerations to his penis, claiming to have received them via a vacuum cleaner. He also had a knack for tinkering, and made homemade electronic devices. He had a computer which he occasionally used, and it was later revealed that he had made searches on Nazism and “plastic explosives.”.[12] en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Newton_Chandler_IIIso how do they know he had no friends, listened to white noise for hours, and drove to LL BEAN to turn around and come home because of no parking. Where are they getting this info? if someone knows all about those kinds of things, I would think they must be pretty close to him, or how would they know? who did he tell all of this to? Whoever that someone is, must have been "some kind" of friend so why is he searching for Nazism and "plastic explosives".... was he racist? was he planning on blowing up something? had he blown up something in the past? but then later decides rather than blow up something he will kill himself instead? I wonder WHEN the internet searches were done? we need all this info LOL

His body was discovered in his apartment on July 30, 2002. He was believed to have killed himself about a week earlier.[9] He had committed suicide by shooting himself in the mouth with a .38-caliber Charter Arms revolver he had purchased a few months earlier.[5][9] On his calendar he had marked down the days until his suicide,[12] and before he shot himself closed the blinds and turned off the air conditioning, likely to quicken the decomposition process. He had recently been diagnosed with colon cancer, which may have influenced his decision to end his own life.[3][4][9] He had $82,000 in his bank account and had listed his co-workers as emergency contacts. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Newton_Chandler_IIISo if he had his co-workers listed as emergency contacts for the bank to get ahold of, and if his co-workers obviously knew who he was and so did the bank, that does not sound like someone who did not want his ID known upon his death. was his bank account in the name of Chandler or Nichols? that is a question that the answer would make a difference. How do they know he is the one who pulled the blinds and turned off the air conditioning? so he buys the gun a few months prior to supposedly killing himself, and marks down the days on the calendar until the day he is going to commit suicide? how do they know that is why he is marking off the days? did he leave notes on the calendar? and why are you marking off days and waiting a few months to kill yourself on a certain day? if so, then we have to wonder why THAT day... and what day exactly is that date? is his death date that is listed, they day they found him? the day of his death? or in between those days? probably the last day he marked off the calendar, so what day is that exactly? maybe that date meant something to him as he waited a few months from buying the gun until that date...why THAT date.... you would think they went by the calendar last date marked off to say that is when he died, he certainly can't die after that if he marked off the calendar... so let's say he really did die the day they say on his death which is july 23, 2002... so why did he pick july 23rd? is there something important with that date?

July 23rd, the day Nichols supposedly decided he will commit suicide, why this date?
what happened in history on this date?
just going to find anything that might have triggered this date...
1851 Treaty of Traverse des Sioux signed by Sioux Indians and US ( he was in South Dakota)
1942 World War II: Operation Edelweiss (a German plan to gain control over the Caucasus) begins.(he was looking up Nazism on the net) 1942 Adolf Hitler's Directive number 45: order for army to advance on Stalingrad 1943 US 45th Infantry division occupies north coast of Termini
1944 US forces invade Japanese-held Tinian in WW II( was he there? )
1946 Menachem Begin's Zionist militant group Irgun bombs the King David Hotel, the then British administrative headquarters for Palestine
1947 1st (US Navy) air squadron of jets, Quonset Point, Rhode Island
1967 -27] 43 die in race riot in Detroit (2,000 injured, 442 fires) 1968 Race riot in Cleveland, 11 including 3 police officers killed
1973 US President Richard Nixon refuses to release Watergate tapes of conversations in the White House relevant to the Watergate investigation

okay looking at these two events again that happened on the death date(not the year, just the day and month) of Robert supposedly killing himself.
1967 -27] 43 die in race riot in Detroit (2,000 injured, 442 fires) 1968 Race riot in Cleveland, 11 including 3 police officers killed
so could either of these two events have anything to do with him killing himself on this date?
Just thinking outloud of any weird possibilities.
we know he was looking up nazism and explosives on the net... well that would fit in with either of the two above events.
And there is that dang Detroit Michigan location again... just like in Zodiac case. What is up with Michigan and all these killers and weird people LOL
and then the race riot in cleveland, so he moves to OHIO? and I think he had a relative living there, didn't I just find that a few posts before this? I think I did. was Robert nichols in some way involved in the race riots or the bombings? did he blow up something?
I wonder what dates he was looking up explosives..had to be long after the 60's, cuz it was not on the net at that time... so was he still blowing up things in later years? was he planning on it? I know my brain is going WAY OUT HERE, but brainstorming is good. Who was in Oklahoma when Joseph Newton Chandler and his parents lived there, who might have got that ID... well I went through all the relatives of both families to see if anyone was connected to Robert Nichols and did not find anyone. so lets go look for events around the time the Chandlers were living in OK and see if there were any nazi group bombings at the time or close to it.
Could the turner diaries be one of the nazism things Robert Nichols was researching? It is known as one of the most influential works of violent extremist propaganda in the Engllish Language. So if you are looking up nazism and racist info you are bound to bump into this... If this book care out in 1978 maybe Robert Nichols read it and
so 1978 . the Turner Diaries came out, about racism and blowing up stuff, like the pentegon etc. Tim Mcveigh was said to have read that and it influenced him. A couple of other people it did also.
The Turner Diaries inspired more than 200 murders in at least 40 terrorist attacks and hate crimes
The Turner Diaries, the infamous racist dystopian novel by neo-Nazi William Luther Pierce, has inspired more than 200 murders since its publication in 1978, including the single deadliest act of domestic terrorism in U.S. history, the Oklahoma City bombing. The book is arguably the most important single work of white nationalist propaganda in the English language, but it is not a singular artifact. The Turner Diaries is part of a genre of racist dystopian propaganda dating back to the U.S. Civil War.
hmmmm, don't know... just thinking. could Robert Nichols have been a racist and decided to just get up and go get involved in something... then in 1978 read that book and got into something bigger, needed another ID? so he could go blow up stuff or buy chemicals with it, or what? probably not,but just thinking. Was he in oklahoma and met Chandler and after he died he stole the son's ID?
ok let me go look more... haha
surely he is not related to Terry Lynn Nichols, Tim Mcveigh's Bombing partner? haha

Robert Nichol's family said that he never really paid that much attention to family things, so what was he so preoccupied with? His son also said he would tinker around and could make all kinds of things. So what was he making. HIs son said he made a gun. so what else?
was he making things that blow up?
This was during the 1970s, when protest bombings in America were commonplace, especially in hard-hit cities like New York, Chicago and San Francisco. Nearly a dozen radical underground groups, dimly remembered outfits such as the Weather Underground, the New World Liberation Front and the Symbionese Liberation Army, set off hundreds of bombs during that tumultuous decade—so many, in fact, that many people all but accepted them as a part of daily life
so we had all these radical groups going on and groups bombing things all over the place... was Robert a part of this without anyone knowing about it. Did he do something that he though he was going to get caught for so he needed ID? And who was he involved with out in calif, san fran and napa etc. and where did he go off and on when he co workers would say that Robert just got up and took off. And where did he get that 82,000 that was in the bank, and why looking up nazism and explosives? Sounds to me like he really might have been in somem organization that was out there bombing people.
the key is to find him in OK and see if he actually new Joseph Newton Chandler.

A lot of good info there!
I am pretty sure Nichols wasn't in Oklahoma very long and was probably just visiting someone on his way to California. I wonder who he knew there and if somehow this is hos he learned of the deceased Chandler family.
Good thinking on the Turner Diaries. I wouldn't be surprised if that is what he was looking up on the interwebs. I wonder if there is any way that we could get ahold of an inventory list of all the items that were in his apartment. Do police or sheriffs departments do that? I would specifically be interested to see what kind of books, if any, Nichols had in his possession.

ok this is a bit "weird", but means nothing but making a note of it.
Name: Joseph N. Chandler SSN: 452-98-3187 Last Residence: 94901 San Rafael, Marin, California, USA Born: 5 Dec 1950 Died: 24 Jul 1994 State (Year) SSN issued: Texas (1968)
who is this Joseph N Chandler issued a SSN in TEX in 1968? and last known address in Marin County CA... and he dies one day after Robert Nichols who died under the name of Joseph N Chandler 8 yrs after this one. Now we don't really know if july 23 is the right death date of robert nichols/joe chandler because he body was there for a bit and he had been marking off the calendar. or maybe he killed himself very late that night as july 24th rolled around at midnight. but this is weird ... probably just some fluke, but going to keep looking at it to see if there is more to this.
UPDATE
this is for the above
Joseph Nelson Chandler BIRTH 5 Dec 1950 Nacogdoches, Nacogdoches County, Texas, USA DEATH 24 Jul 1994 (aged 43) Baytown, Harris County, Texas, USA BURIAL Bethel Cemetery Appleby, Nacogdoches County, Texas, USA

Even if they did not let the guy actually have them, they surely must have given him a list of anything they confiscated. They are suppose to, but do they is another question haha. Maybe getting in touch with the executor... but he's probably being bothered by 10,000 people by now and does not want to be bothered any more. I don't know if there is another way to request a list. I've never asked the police for anything in my life LOL. And if there is a list, it probably would just say BOOKS and not list the names ? or maybe they allowed Robert's son to come get all the personal items. His son might know.

okay just ran into a bunch of info so will just pull out the important stuff and then anyone can go to the link and read the rest Link To Info HereName of Nichols/Chandlers executor is MIKE Nichols had spent 80,000 already on surgery (so that means he still had 82,000 left, he had at least 162,000 before the surgery) also had stocks on his 401K application listed beneficiaries as Mary R. Wilson of Columbus ohio Brother George Chandler in Denver Colorado Both addresser were bogus Nichols had applied chandler birth certificate - issued on August 29, 1978 sent from Buffalo NY he applied for SS card under chandler name on sept 25, 1978 card was mailed to 2326 1/2 Canyon Lake Drive South Dakota some slum shack, homeowner was dead, man's son could not remember who rented it he was not listed in city directory as ever living there. (but this was a shack behind another house, who knows or might have been under another name) listed under that address was some "pothead" listed 1977-1979, but no one under 1978, this guy is dead too. police got ahold of mike and got nichol's possessions a key ring with 7 keys, one key fit the truck 1988 GMC pickup (paid cash for the truck, so there is another chunk of money he had) a key for his safe containing documents that had no info on them.(they said) an ashtray found in the truck, but nichols did not smoke The gun he had with had a serial number tracking to being sold i 1966 in Seagoville, Texas (less than 80 miles where Joe Chandler lived in TX) a copy of SS under Joe Chandler name shows his income listed annually from 1978 to 2002 but there is nothing for 1983 . hmmm joes computer would not work so they threw it away (huh?) a job application for joe- wilson and Associates in los Angeles CA from 1975 to 1980 but Wilson company said there was no record of him working there. (probably under another ID is my guess, or he lied)

There were a bunch of murders in OHIO between 1979 and 1982 known as OHIO LOVERS MURDERS 8 couples killed while parked i secluded necking spots from Toledo to Ackron, OHIO one of Jack the ripper's victims was found by a London detective named Joe Chandler haha there was a middle-aged woman with dark hair who visited Nichols/joe at his apt once. according to his neighbor Mike, the executor was shown a photo of a man by the coroner's office and asked who it was. Mike said it was "joe"(nichols) but it turned out to be Elmer Liskey, a local musician and real estate salesmand who died in 1999 before nichols died...but mike said it sure did look like "joe" (hmmm I wonder who that was? the guy died and there was a body, so it could not be him... right? haha ) -____________________ Colonial Parkway Murders . this is in virginia where he was also suppose to have went through, doubt he was around long but just in case. So we have Nichols in the Dallas area a year or two after he moves to California. Unless someone else bought the gun in Seagoville. Is there a record of who actually bought the gun? If someone else bought it then we have to try to figure our how Nichols ended up with it. This other Joseph N. Chandler you found is interesting. Most likely just a coincidence, but there could be something there. That Chandler was only 43 at the time of his death. I wonder how he died.
One thing I am thinking, and it is very very far fetched, but perhaps Nichols was friends with a merchant marine that went missing in 1963 from Martinez, CA. This guy grew up in Pennsylvania and lived in Dallas in the 50's. I had a theory that he could have been Joseph Newton Chandler, which of course was proven wrong, but he was about the same age as Nichols, grew up in the same part of the country, both "disappeared" and it seems like both have ties to Dallas as well as the bay area.
If Nichols was applying for jobs in Los Angeles between 1975 and 1980, he probably wasn't in South Dakota very long. I wonder if it was Wilson Associates or Wilson and Associates. They seem to be two separate companies....
Wilson Associates is a collection of global studios and design-minded creatives providing interior architectural design, architecture, art consultancy, concept development, branding and food & beverage design.... I think this is probably where he applied. And if he is applying for legit jobs then maybe he wasn't up to no good. Who knows.
I was doing some research on the Park Rapids address, 2326 1/2 Canyon Lake Dr. I haven't found much yet. Looks like there are (or were) a few of businesses there - a chiropractor's office and an accounting firm and an advertising agency. I don't know what was there in 1978. According to the white pages, there are 7 suites at this address, but I don't think that is accurate.

____________________ We are doing the very same research LOL. I just went and looked up that stuff and wondering the very same things. which wilson company and I was looking for that grand rapids address and found the chriopractor als. It did not say if the gun was registered to who ... just said they ran the serial number and it came up as being bought there. they might have more info but if so it was not in that article info. hmmm on your research on the merchant marines guy, do you have his name? or a link to anything i can read about that.
